Charity Begins at Home Program
No Meeting Involved
Our church participates in the Manna Program. It is a fundraising venue in which gift cards can be ordered for various retailers and services which then give back a portion of the sale to the church. Our Charity Begins at Home Program adds a human care component by encouraging members to order and donate gift cards for essentials such as gas, food, and clothing to fellow members who are experiencing a season of financial struggle and occasionally to non-members in need. Distribution of the cards maintains the anonymity of both the giver and recipient. Members in need are encouraged to speak confidentially with the office staff to receive the benefits of this wonderful program.
Frequency and Time Determined by Group
This small group ministry is based on the ChristCare model. Its goal is to provide the proper environment in which people develop trusting relationships that encourage one another to grow and live out biblical truth. The groups are hosted by members in their homes. The structure of each meeting has four specific areas of engagement: Prayer & Worship, Missional Service, Biblical Equipping, and Community Building & Care. And, in Lutheran fashion, there is time for refreshments and fellowship. Current ChristCare Groups include: Community Builders, Busy Women, Faith After Fifty, Intergenerational Women of Faith, and Parents.

Human Care Team
Meets As Needed
Participants Determine Degree/Type of Service
The mission of the Human Care Team is to serve our St. John members in need on a short- or long-term basis. Visits are made regularly to our homebound members and cards are mailed to them on their birthday and at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The team also sends cards to members recovering from illness. The team provides meals to church members who have returned home after a hospital stay or have another specific, expressed need on occasion. Another service provided by the Human Care Team is transportation to doctors, dentists, and other locations for church members who are unable to drive. The Human Care Team facilitates the Charity at Home Program. If you have a compassionate heart and a desire to help others, this is the team for you.

Serves as Needed
The Lunch Bunch is a group of women who show the love and comfort of Jesus to those who grieve by providing them with an opportunity to gather and to share words of support over a luncheon following the funeral of their loved one. Service opportunities include making phone calls to coordinate food donations or ordering, setting up, serving, and/or cleaning up. Even those women who are employed outside the home can assist in some way.
